Sheriff Sells Wedding License

Monday morning Mrs. Opal Malfa, of Orondo and Mr. Dez Reasor, of Brays, were granted a license to wed, by the country auditor, Frank B. Malloy.

The contracting parties, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. E.H. Jones, of Entiat, left Orondo by auto, headed for Spokane, where the wedding took place yesterday.

After leaving home in a shower of rice, and having their auto properly decorated for the occasion, with old shoes, etc., they supposed they had escaped further trouble, but not so.

Miss Vera Swan had filled a whisky bottle with tea that was a good imitation, in appearance, of the real thing, and slipped this under the back seat of the car. She then called up Sheriff Davis and gave him a tip to “pinch” the party when they reached Waterville.

The sheriff went out to meet them, but they did not show up, so he came back to town and presently they came driving down the street.

He hailed Mr. Reasor to stop, and explained that he wanted to search the car. This was a great surprise to the party.

After ordering the ladies to get out, the sheriff discovered the bottle under the seat. A number gathered around the car and were allowed to smell the bottle, all testifying that it was whisky.

The sheriff finally compromised with the couple by telling them if they would buy their license here he would let them go. This was cheerfully agreed to and they went to the court house and made the purchase.

While they were in the auditor’s office, some of the ladies slipped into the car and did a good job of mixing the contents of their grips. They were again showered with rice as they left the court house, headed for the “Falls” city.

Mr. and Mrs. Reasor both enjoy many friends in this community, who will join with the EMPIRE-PRESS in wishing them pleasant relations.

The groom has a ranch in the Brays neighborhood, and has just completed remodeling a home, where he will take his bride on their return.

They will be home to their friends after July 1st.
