Sheriff studies at FBI academy

Douglas County metformin hydrochloride 500 mg sheriff Harvey Gjesdal has been accepted to receive additional training at the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy in Virginia this summer, undersheriff Don Culp said at Waterville’s town council meeting July 5.
The training began July 9 and is scheduled to finish Sept. 16. Gjesdal will be in contact with the sheriff’s office by computer, Culp said.
He also said that beginning next month a radar trailer will be set up in town to monitor speed in problem areas, like Columbia Street.
• No members of the public expressed comments during the scheduled public hearing regarding the six-year street plan for 2012-2017. Council members requested certain corrections and amendments be made to the plan, then voted unanimously to set a public hearing for finalization and adoption of the plan. This will be held 7:30 p.m. Monday.
• The city’s current contract with Consolidated Disposal, Inc., is coming to an end and according to the agenda, council was to vote on extending the service term. Town attorney Steve Smith advised the council that in order to comply with regulations, it should first advertise a request for qualifications. Council members agreed, and no action was taken.
• Council members voted unanimously to approve a transportation improvement board consultants agreement between the town and the engineering firm Erlandsen regarding work on Chelan Avenue. The work is scheduled for 2012.
• Clerk/treasurer Marsha Peterson presented the quarterly report for April-June. Peterson reported that revenues in the 103 park/pool fund are up $7,979.52 and expenditures are down $3,175.15 from the same period last year.
• Council voted unanimously to approve putting the levy lid lift on the ballot for 2011 in order to help fund the pool. This is a 1 percent increase in property tax, which provides about $3,200 a year for the pool. The tax is currently in effect, but needs to be renewed.
• Link board member Wayne Hawks reported that during the last Link board meeting, the issue of discontinuing advertising that limits the ability of passengers to see out the windows of busses was discussed. It was decided that funds obtained from the advertising are needed, and such advertisements would not be discontinued.
• There has been a request by a private party to rent the town’s 1936 Chevrolet fire truck. Mayor Royal DeVaney requested that Smith draft a policy for such rentals. He recommended that fees or donations collected for the rental of the truck be earmarked for the pool.
• The next council meeting is scheduled for July 18 at 7:30 p.m.
