Vehicular assault trial set for Highway 97 crash

A Brewster metformin er 500mg side effects teen faces a vehicular assault charge in a July 2010 car crash that injured him, his passengers and another motorist on Highway 97 near Wells Dam.

Ignacio Hurtado’s southbound Ford Mustang veered across the centerline and struck a northbound Ford Explorer driven by Donald R. Eby, 70, of Wenatchee. The July 9 wreck left both men hospitalized for about a month at Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center.

Hurtado, now 19,  was charged in March and appeared June 29 in Chelan County Superior Court for a pretrial hearing. Trial is scheduled for Aug. 2.

Washington State Patrol investigators said Hurtado had been drinking prior to the crash, with his blood alcohol testing at 0.02 percent 90 minutes after the accident. He is not charged with DUI, which has a legal limit of 0.08 or above. He had completed a night shift at a Brewster packing shed about four hours before the wreck.

Eby’s Explorer was the pilot car for an oversized load carrier following behind him. Both Hurtado and Eby underwent rehabilitative care after their release from Harborview.

Hurtado’s passengers, Jorge L. Rodriguez and Noe S. Hernandez, both 17, were treated for minor injuries. They told police they were asleep at the time of the crash.
