Football opener postponed

The Waterville metformin hydrochloride football team’s season-opening game against Pateros, scheduled for last Friday, was postponed because neither team had enough players available.
“A lot of (our) kids are helping with the harvest, and some are sick,” Shockers coach Mike Gray said.
Gray and Pateros coach Bill Haley agreed to reschedule the game for Nov. 4.
Gray said when his team gets back to full strength, it will be able to suit up 17 to 20 players.
“Even the Entiat game, (scheduled for Friday at home), is a day-by-day thing.” He said.
The Shockers will have returning linemen Garrett Thomsen, Gabe Murphy and Mars Chambers, and Mitchell Clements will be back to fill the quarterback position.
Gray said, “I don’t know very much about the Entiat team.” The Tigers beat Waterville last season en route to a 3-4 record and lost to Soap Lake 26-22 last week.
Gray admitted the Shockers will be out-weighed this year; the average Waterville player is about 138 pounds. That factor will be greater in games later in the season, Gray said.
“The players have a good attitude,” he said. “So far, the team is having fun.”
