Water, sewer rates to increase

The new water rates, adjusted by the consumer price index of 2.9 percent for July 2010 to July 2011, will increase the base rates anywhere from $0.96 to $2.33 per month depending on meter size.
The sewer rate will increase by 5 percent effective January 20.
• Council members approved a lease agreement for the public rental of a 1936 Chevrolet fire truck.
• Council members reviewed the town’s estimated revenues for next year as prepared by clerk/treasurer Marsha Peterson. Peterson explained that fund numbers for 104 Citywide Cumulative Reserve and 106 Water/Sewer Cumulative Reserve will be changed to 004 and 412, respectively, to comply with the state auditor’s new reporting requirements. Peterson also said that revenues from the state are expected to decrease by 3.4 percent, according to the latest government reports.
• Councilmember Bob Olin was appointed as mayor pro-tem.
• Peterson alerted council members that the 402 Public Works Trust Loan Redemption 1993 Fund now has $67,539.22 remaining after paying off the entire loan earlier this year. Council agreed to table any action for re-allocating these funds until a later date.
• Council members approved a motion to allow the town to advertise for applicants for its small works roster.
• Council member Wayne Hawks, a Link Board representative, said that Link has purchased four new buses, made possible by grants. Link will hold a special public meeting in Wenatchee on Tuesday, Hawks said.
• Mayor Royal DeVaney commended the efforts of members of the Waterville Chamber of Commerce for volunteering their time to give the old meat market building a facelift. The results have proven to be a vast improvement and truly enhance the appearance of the downtown business district, DeVaney said.
