Mayor wants to ban dumpsters during winter

Utility superintendent Marty Ramin had advised DeVaney that residential dumpsters can impede snowplowing and damage city streets during the winter months.
Council expressed the concern that such a decision could adversely affect residents attempting remodeling or extensive clean-up projects due to water or fire damage. DeVaney said that those factors would need to be taken into consideration before making a final decision on the matter. Council members postponed action until a later date.
• After a public hearing, council members approved an ad valorem tax for 2012 and delayed drafting and approving an ordinance for the tax.
• Dawn Davies, Wenatchee Valley Humane Society’s director, presented a proposal for a new two-year animal control contract. The proposal included three options for levels of service with correlating increases of 5 percent to 17 percent. Council members asked to postpone a decision until the next meeting. Davies requested that council members make a decision by the end of October to aid the animal control agency in drafting a budget.
• Council members reviewed a proposal for a 10 percent increase in the policing contract for 2012 and agreed to discuss the matter with Douglas County Sheriff Harvey Gjesdal at the next council meeting.
