East Wenatchee metformin hcl 500mg metformin hcl weight loss resident Jerry Karney was watching a ball game on Oct. 7 and didn’t pay attention to a phone call until his wife Betty ran into the room. “It’s a guy from Rotary,” she told him. “I think you won the raffle.”

Jerry said, “You’ve got to be kidding.”

She wasn’t. He won the Wenatchee Rotary raffle of either a 2011 Camaro convertible or $25,000. His ticket was drawn from a barrel with 16,727 tickets in front of about 100 people at the Wenatchee Golf & Country Club. Kyle Davis, an outstanding senior honored by WestSide High School staff, dug deep into the barrel to draw the ticket.

“I’ve never won anything except nickels and dimes,” said Karney, who moved here five years ago from California. “I’ve never played the Washington Lottery. I don’t win, so I don’t do it.”

However, he and Betty were at the North Central Washington District Fair in Waterville, where Jerry saw the car at the Rotary booth. He’d been a Rotarian, so when Tom McNair from Wenatchee played to Karney’s experience (as a Rotarian), he bought one for himself and one for his wife.

“I’ve got a soft place in my heart for Rotary,” he said. “They do great work, such as polio eradication worldwide.”

Wenatchee Rotary raised approximately $150,000 from sponsors and ticket sales and expects to net $111,000. The money will go to four projects: $72,150 for WestSide High School, $27,750 for Haiti relief, and $5,500 each for Rotary Park and Wenatchee Rotary Foundation College Scholarships.

Karney chose the money. He’s received many suggestions on how to spend it.

“We appreciate those, but for now we’re thankful I won,” he said. “We plan to save a little, enjoy a little, and with property taxes due, it’s nice to have a little cushion. We’re blessed.”
