Boys: Offense improves, defense stays strong

By Adam Schmitz

The Shockers metformin hcl 850 had a long two weeks in season play, taking on some very tough opponents. On Jan. 17, the team went to Kittitas. Road games have been a point of improvement for the Shockers. Not shooting well and good defense by Kittitas led to a 49-34 loss.

Walter Edger had 10 points to lead the team. Jamie Abrahamse had nine rebounds to lead the Shockers, along with four blocks. Mitchell Clements had seven rebounds in the game.

The Shockers also took on the Manson Trojans Jan. 20, a rematch of earlier in the season. The game was non-league, so it was a good break for the team. Waterville played some amazing defense, but had inconsistent shooting. They lost, 56-52.

Robert Parcells had 15 points to lead the Shockers. Abrahamse had 13 points, 14 rebounds, and five blocks in a fantastic performance.

With only four points in the first and third periods, 18 in the second and 26 in the fourth, it’s hard to get a win. Inconsistent shooting doesn’t help a team win games.

Last week, the Shockers played two weekend games. First, they went to Warden Jan. 27, hoping to continue and improve on playing away games. Slow play and inconsistency, both on the offensive and defensive side of the ball, led to a 59-24 loss. Abrahamse had six points to lead the Shockers.

“We weren’t ready to play. We looked like we were sleepwalking out there.” Coach Heath Jordan said.

Something got into the Shockers, and they came out Jan. 28 with strong energy. An early jump and fantastic shooting, along with a strong defensive effort, led to a 68-42 win for the Shockers. There were some amazing heads-up plays that we haven’t seen executed by the Shockers, like the lob pass down the court to Trey Worthen, who threw the ball up for two points. They looked more focused, poised and ready to play.

Parcells had 16 points to lead the Shockers. Clements and Abrahamse had 11 points each. The team had 25 points in the first period, which is the most points they have had in the first period all season.

“Great shooting, confidence — what more could I ask for out of these guys? They did great, and the scoreboard showed it.” Coach Jordan said. “It was great to see so many people out for the chili feed and to support the Shockers. Saw some faces that I haven’t seen in a long time in the gym, it was great.” Jordan said.

Waterville made seven three-pointers in the game, which is the most they have had all season. They were also 13 for 19 at the foul line. Abrahamse was five for six at the line, and that was all in the first period. The Shockers also out-rebounded Soap Lake.
