The Shocker boys and girls track teams ran well at both the quad meet in Okanogan April 21 and at the larger Rieke Invitational in Peshastin April 24. The host team was the home team at the Okanogan meet and the Rieke Invitational was sponsored by Cascade High School of Leavenworth. Kelsey Browning dominated the girls distances at Okanogan, winning the 800, 1600 and 3200. Waterville’s boys ran well and Collin Pate and Logan Cooper of Mansfield piled up the points as well.

One of the highlights of the Okanogan meet was the emergence of Waterville freshman Taylor Willms in the distance races. She finished second in the 1600 and third in the 800. Lexi Deishl, another freshman, finished sixth in the 400 and seventh in the javelin. Elaina Thomsen won the 300 hurdles and finished second in the high jump with a season best of 5 feet even. Cristina Suarez, an exchange student at Waterville, was fifth in the 100.

For the boys, Chris Dronen won the 400 and Dayn Madsen finished second in the 200 meter dash. Dronen was fifth in that race. Ben Garnica got a second in the 1600 and a third in the 800. Brandon Dorn was fourth in the long jump. Cristian Morales was second in the 3200.

Pate was fourth in the 100, fifth in the shot put and third in the long jump. His teammate Logan Cooper was second in the triple jump, fourth in the javelin and sixth in the long jump. Between the two of them, Mansfield made a good showing as the only 1B school at the meet.

At the Rieke Invitational, Browning ran well, winning the 800 and 1600 and finishing third in the 400. Willms showed her talent in the 17-school meet, getting a third in the 1600 and a second in the 3200 meter run. Willms ran her best time in the 1600 to date by finishing under six minutes. Thomsen tied for fourth in the high jump and was fifth in the 300 hurdles. The 4×200 relay team finished fourth.

The boys 4×100 relay team of Dorn, Dronen, Madsen and Rafael Capi was fourth also. Capi also ran to a fourth in the 400 meters. Madsen placed sixth in the 100.

The Waterville teams competed in a quad meet with Cashmere, Entiat and Bridgeport at Cashmere April 28 and will finish the regular season at the Bridgeport Invitational May 8.
