The Shocker girls blazed the other teams competing in the Bridgeport Quad meet held March 24. Bridgeport, Soap Lake, Waterville, Manson and Brewster were the 2B teams present and Pateros and Cascade Christian were the 1B contestants. The Waterville girls simply overwhelmed the others, amassing 121 points. Manson was closest with 82 points and Bridgeport had 81.5. Waterville’s boys were shorthanded at the meet but made some fine performances nevertheless.

Kelsey Browning was the big scorer for the Shockers. Elaina Thomsen, who also has won at the state track meet, contributed significantly as well. But first year high school competitors Brooke Simmons, Lexi Deishl and Taylor Willms also piled up the points. The 4×200 relay team of Deishl, Thomsen, Simmons and Browning won the race and currently are the fifth best in the state. Browning won the 400, 800 and 1600 meter races. It was her first race in the 400 and her time is the fourth best in the state. She was already ranked in the 800, 1600 and 3200. Thomsen finished first in the 300 hurdles, fifth in the javelin and third in the 200. Her hurdle time is eighth in the state. Thomsen’s best event — the high jump — was not held because of weather concerns. Simmons emerged as the leading Shocker in the short sprints with a second in both the 100 and 200 meter runs. A second in the 300 hurdles gave her the second highest point contribution to the Waterville win. Taylor Willms came in second in the 1600 and third in the 800. Deishl finished third in the 400 and fourth in the 800. Christina Suarez finished sixth in both the 200 and 400 meter runs.

For the boys, Brandon Dorn had a fifth in the 100 meter dash and leaped to 17 feet, 5 inches in the long jump. The jump placed him in second for the event. Chris Dronen ran for a fourth place in the 400 meters. Christian Morales took a sixth place in the 3200 meter run.

The Shockers will return to action after spring break at the Brewster Co-ed meet at Bridgeport on April14 and will also compete April 17 at the K-Valley Rally at Kittitas.
