The annual Bridgeport Daze celebration, sponsored by the Bridgeport Area Chamber of Commerce, was held June 6. The community event has taken place for over 100 years according to Mario Martinez, Bridgeport Chamber president.

The event was held at Fireman’s Park and was well attended. Saturday’s festivities began with a parade at 9 a.m. Over 300 people gathered at the park to hear music by Sam Buckingham and the band Crecientes de Tierra Caliente. With 23 vendors selling candle products, food, clothing, toys and games, jewelry, crafts and other items, there was something for everyone.

“This is our fourth year here and we have always enjoyed a lot of success,” said vendor Susan Schuh.

Martinez introduced a dunk tank as part of this year’s extravaganza, and it was appreciated on the hot day.

“Our Bridgeport Daze was well attended and we are pleased with the community support,” Martinez said. He added that the Chamber of Commerce is small right now and he is encouraging people that are interested in their community’s economic growth to join to provide input, energy and ideas. A vibrant chamber makes a big difference to the business interests of the Bridgeport community.

Martinez also wanted to thank the many sponsors that helped make the event a success.

These included M & R Supermarket, Kenya Tacos, Bridgeport Plaza, Azteca Bakery, Ellie’s Bakery, Highland Orchards, Port of Douglas County, Frito-Lay, Walmart of Omak and Cascade Mechanical. Individual donors included Jesus De La Cerda and Gambino Vasquez. Martinez also expressed appreciation to Jacob Lucas for his donation of a carved wooden bear for the raffle.
