The Waterville/Mansfield softball team traveled to Winthrop March 29 and fell to the Liberty Bell Mountain Lions, 21-6. The home team had big innings in the first, third, fourth and sixth while the Shockers got their scores in the fourth and fifth innings. Ari Salcido pitched the entire game for Waterville/Mansfield. Coach Linda Burke kept catcher Sarah Velasquez and Kaionni Burke, at first base, in the game for all six innings, but substituted liberally at the other positions.

Drew Koenig got two singles and a base on balls for the Shockers. Velasquez got a single, a run and brought two runners over the plate. Cora Dills also got a single and brought two runners around the bases. Evelyn Cazeres got a hit in her one time at bat. Evelyn Negrete got a run batted in as did Salcido. Burke got both a hit and a run. Addy Tonseth also had a hit. Patty Garnica and Laura Shriner crossed the plate with runs.

Against Bridgeport March 31, Waterville/Mansfield had a quiet offense in the first game. Salcido was the pitcher. They came alive at the plate in the second contest, but Bridgeport had an overwhelming final inning. Bridgeport won the first game by a score of 12-1, and in the second contest they ran away with a 26-5 tally.

In the first game, Cazeres, Salcido, Shriner and Koenig got hits. Cazeres hit in the only run.

In the second game, Burke, Salcido and Shriner got hits but the Shockers had more players on base with walks. Cazeres pitched for Waterville/Mansfield. Burke and Salcido got doubles in the fourth inning that brought other Shockers across the plate. Cazeres was on base four times with two bases on balls and two hits by pitcher calls. Although the Fillies scored enough runs to be ahead 9-5 at the end of the sixth inning, they sent a parade of players across the plate in the final stanza.

Waterville/Mansfield plays again April 9 in a doubleheader at Kittitas. The first game begins at 1 p.m.
