The Waterville/Mansfield track team did well at the Eastmont JV Invitational March 29 in East Wenatchee. The Shockers competed against Entiat, Tonasket and Wilbur-Creston as well as the Eastmont, Wenatchee, Moses Lake and Sunnyside junior varsity teams.

Waterville/Mansfield garnered six firsts on the girls side and one for the boys. There were many more places won by the Shockers that would have scored points in a regular meet.

Taylor Riggs was the big gun for the boys. He won the 100-meter dash, finished second in the high jump and third in the long jump. Cole Koenig, T.J. Moser, Ben Garnica and Riggs got a fifth in the 4×100 relay. Joe Dahlke took fifth in the javelin and Garnica got a sixth in the 1600 meters. Johnny Mullen jumped to sixth in the high jump. In his first 300-meter hurdle race, Mullen took seventh place

Kelsey Browning took a first in the 1600 meters and second in the 400 and the 800. With Elaina Thomsen, McKaylin Gormley and Kim Parcells, she added another first in the 4×400 relay. Thomsen broke the 5-foot barrier in the high jump by two inches and placed herself in a tie for first statewide in the 2B classification. Thomsen was fifth in the 300-meter hurdles at Eastmont, ran on the winning 4×400 relay and was on the second place 4×200 meter relay.

Hannah Hughes was another big scorer for Waterville/Mansfield. She blazed to a second place finish in the 100-meter dash and she, Lexi Deishl, Thomsen and Gormley were second in the 4×200 meter relay. Hughes won both the javelin and the long jump at Eastmont. Given that she is a freshman, those accomplishments are noteworthy.

Deishl tied for first in the pole vault and ran on the second place 4×200 meter relay team. Maria Mullen got a second in the shot put and a seventh in the javelin at Eastmont. Parcells jumped to second place in the long jump and ran to a seventh in the 100-meter dash.

The Shockers competed in the Brewster Co-ed Relays April 12. On April 19, they will meet Okanogan, Omak and Soap Lake at Okanogan.
