Shocker girls place ninth at state

The Waterville/Mansfield girls track team competed in the 2B track and field state meet May 26-28 at Eastern Washington University in Cheney.

Before the team left, Waterville High School students lined the hallways holding signs of encouragement, displaying “Number One” hand mitts and giving high-fives to each of the team members as they made their way to the bus. It was an inspiring show of support from the students, teachers and many Waterville residents as the team made its way out of town.

The Shockers placed ninth overall at state.

Results for the Shockers are:

Lexi Deishl, Kimberly Parcells, Brooke Simmons and Hannah Hughes placed fourth in the 4×100 relay. The same quartet placed fifth in the 4×400 relay.

In the 100-meter dash, Hughes took 23rd, Parcells 51st, Deishl 59th and Simmons 80th. In the 200-meter dash, Elaina Thomsen took 42nd, Simmons 69th, McKaylin Gormley 74th and Parcells 88th. Kelsey Browning took fifth in the 400-meter dash, Thomsen 22nd, Parcells 57th, Gormley 60th and Deishl 68th. In the 800-meter dash, Browning took seventh and Gormley 48th. Browning also took fourth in the 1600-meter dash.

In the 100-meter hurdles, Hughes placed 38th. In the 300-meter hurdles, Simmons placed 21st and Thomsen 39th.

The shot put saw Gormley placing 23rd and Hughes 31st. In the javelin, Hughes placed 28th.

In the discus, Gormley placed 21st and Hughes 31st.

In the javelin, Hughes placed 28th and Gormley 142nd.

In the high jump, Thomsen placed third and Gormley placed 33rd.

In the long jump, Hughes placed 18th, Parcells 29th and Thomsen 74th. Hughes also placed 46th in the triple jump.

Deishl tied for 11th place in the pole vault.

The Shocker girls concluded a successful season.
