Letter to the Editor: Support Jon Wyss

The 2016 election is proving to be full of uncertainties with many vacant seats open at the national and state levels. As a business woman and as a resident of Eastern Washington for nearly three decades, I had strong concerns about the vacant 12th District Senate seat until I learned that a well-known, dedicated and skilled leader from Brewster, Jon Wyss, had decided to run.

For those of you who do not know Jon, please allow me to summarize a few of his defining characteristics as a leader:

1. He understands the many issues facing our rural region such as agriculture, education, job development, economic growth, immigration and housing to name a few.

2. He is well-respected on both sides of the aisle at the federal and state level.

3. He is a good listener, community-minded and a very strong family man.

How do I know this? I have worked with Jon and many others to help move Okanogan County from wildfire catastrophe to recovery. Jon Wyss has not only worked tirelessly to help Okanogan County rise from the ashes but he has also helped Chelan, Douglas, Ferry, Stevens and Pend Oreille counties as well as the Colville Reservation. Jon was and is our anchor and leader.

It was his leadership and initiative that took a group of community leaders to bring our plights to our elected officials and government agencies in Washington D.C., one of them being the lack of affordable housing in our region. The leaders listened and steps are being taken to address the issue.

In closing, residents of the 12th District have the opportunity to elect a leader who is equipped with all the skills necessary to hit the Senate floor running. Let’s join our efforts to elect that man, Jon Wyss. Vote Jon Wyss for 12th District State Senate.

Nancy Nash-Mendez
