Rock Island awarded Stronger Schools grant

WENATCHEE — Rock Island Elementary School is among 12 North Central Washington schools recently awarded Stronger Schools grants by the Community Foundation of North Central Washington.

The grant program provides up to $5,000 for each school to enrich school experiences for students, support teacher development, and provide opportunities for schools to better achieve their goals.

Rock Island Elementary School received $5,000 for its extended day program offering additional time and support for non-bilingual students who qualify for the Learning Assistance Program (LAP).

Other schools receiving grants were Beaver Valley Elementary School and Icicle River Middle School, both in the Leavenworth area; Pateros School District, Virginia Grainger Elementary School and the Tonasket School District, all in Okanogan County; and Columbia and Washington elementary schools; Lewis & Clark PTSA; Orchard and Pioneer middle schools; and Wenatchee Valley Technical Skills Center, all in Wenatchee.

The next application opens Jan. 15 and the deadline is March 15.
