Shocker track athletes move on to 2B state competition

QUINCY — Waterville/Mansfield Shocker athletes participated in the District 5/6 track and field championships May 19 in Quincy.

For the girls, sophomore Hannah Hughes placed first in 100 meters (13.24), first in discus (108-02, a personal record), first in long jump (15-09), and second in 200 meters (27.80, a personal record). She gained a total of 38 points for the Shockers. Junior Lexi Deishl took first in pole vault (11-00, a personal and district record), fourth in 100 meters (13.80), and fifth in 400 meters (1:08:03, a personal record). She gained 19 points for the Shockers. Freshman Sarah Mullen placed third in triple jump (30-11.50) and took 6 points for the Shockers.

The three girls competed in eight events and placed fourth out of all the District 5/6 teams.

For the boys, junior Johnny Mullen placed placed sixth in high jump (5-04, a personal record), seventh in discus (108-07), and eighth in 110-meter hurdles (19.08). He gained a total of 6 points for the Shockers. Junior Ben Garnica took eighth in 3200 meters (11:18.66, a personal record). He gained 1 point for the Shockers.

Hughes, Deishl and Sarah Mullen move on to the 2B state championships May 25-27 at Eastern Washington University in Cheney.
