Shockers volleyball team squeaks out five-set thriller at Bridgeport

BRIDGEPORT — The Waterville/Mansfield volleyball team won another five-set match away from home on Oct. 19. All sets were decided by four points or less. The final set scores read 23-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-27, 15-11.

The Shockers fell in the first set before winning the next two close sets, lost the fourth and was able to pick up the intensity when it mattered the most, winning the fifth set by 4 points.

Justine Clements led the team with 25 assists out of the setter position, and Waterville/Mansfield coach Melissa Flaget also praised Ali Mires and Alex Poppie for their roles in the passing game. Ari Salcido led the team with 14 kills, and Mires added 8 kills and 7 aces from the serving line.

The Shockers ended their regular season with a 4-11 record.
