Pictorial Past | Waterville’s early civic leader

Albert “Al” Rogers (1859-1929) sits in the office of Waterville businessman Milton Howe in 1900. Al was a civil engineer, merchant and civic leader within the Waterville area. He was instrumental in forming and building the Waterville Railway Co., as well as several banks and businesses. The small community of Alstown, south of Douglas, was named in honor of him in 1908 when the Great Northern Railway punched its way into the plateau. (Information and provided photo/Darrin Nelson)
