Douglas County Sheriff’s Report

Aug. 6

Waterville, non-injury accident: Highway 173, Milepost 13, a Douglas County Sheriff’s Office patrol car struck a deer. The case was turned over to the State Patrol for investigation. The patrol vehicle sustained damages.

Aug. 9

Rock Island, vehicle prowl: 10 block of Nelson Siding Road, an HP laptop computer, a Toshiba laptop computer and a TomTom GPS were taken from an unlocked vehicle. There are no leads at this time.

Waterville, harass/threat: 100 block of Hummingbird Road, the reporting party said that a neighbor had been yelling at him. A protection order against the neighbor had been pending at the time of the incident. The deputy determined that no crime had been committed.

Aug. 10

Rock Island, malicious mischief: 10 block of Indiana Avenue, a person that had been hired to clean a vacant residence reported that unknown subjects had kicked in the back door of the residence. There was some damage to the back door, but no other damage or losses in the residence.

Aug. 11

Rock Island, malicious mischief: 100 block of Hanna Place, profanity was scratched into the side of a vehicle. The owner of the vehicle said that the night before her roommate had been in an altercation with neighbors regarding loud music that was playing. The case is still under investigation.

Bridgeport Bar, animal problem: 10 block of Zerelda Road, a toddler entered a yard and attempted to hug a dog. The dog was scared and bit the toddler’s ear. The deputy contacted the dog and owner and did not find the dog to be aggressive. No enforcement action was taken.

Aug. 12

Waterville, trespass: 100 block of Ponderosa Road, the reporting party said that a neighbor had taken his or her dog out of its kennel, opened the door to the residence and put the dog inside the house. The dog owner requested that paperwork be completed to formally prohibit the neighbor from entering the property.

Aug. 13

Rock Island, drugs: BJ’s Rock Island, a deputy was on routine patrol in the parking lot of the establishment when he observed a vehicle with a dome light on and two people inside. He approached the vehicle on foot and had reason to believe the people were using narcotics. Another deputy arrived at the scene, and the occupants of the vehicle gave the deputies permission to search the vehicle. They found a methamphetamine pipe, a smoking straw, burned aluminum foil and a substance suspected to be methamphetamine. They also found groceries in the truck without a receipt. One of the occupants of the vehicle admitted to stealing the groceries from East Wenatchee Safeway. This occupant was arrested on a warrant. The substance and paraphernalia were forwarded to the prosecutor’s office for review of charges. The matter of the stolen groceries was forwarded to the East Wenatchee Police Department for investigation.

Bridgeport, drugs: 1400 block Foster Avenue, a deputy on routine patrol spotted two individuals walking toward him in the alley. He observed one of them throw something on the ground and asked what it was. The person said that it was a marijuana dab. When searching the individual, the deputy found more dabs on his person. Edgar Begar-Arevalo, 19, of Bridgeport, was cited and arrested for underage possession of under 40 grams of marijuana.

Aug. 14

Rock Island, fraud/forgery: 1600 block of Center Street, the reporting party advised the sheriff’s office that an unknown subject had made unauthorized charges totaling $300 on a bank account. The bank reversed the charges.

Bridgeport, recovered stolen vehicle: 1800 block of Foster Creek Avenue, a deputy was dispatched to an alley where a Red Honda ATV had been parked for the past few days. Upon checking the VIN number it was found that the vehicle had been stolen out of Okanogan County. The owner was contacted and the vehicle was returned. There was no evidence found in the vehicle that could help to determine who had taken it.

Aug. 15

Rock Island, suspicious: 10 block of Riverside Place, there was a report of a suspicious person hanging around a residence. The area will be watched by the sheriff’s office deputies.

Mansfield, assault: 100 block of E. Railroad Avenue, a victim reported being assaulted by a neighbor in his apartment building after the neighbor accused him of stomping around in the building. After talking with the deputy, the man decided he did not want to press charges and he signed declination of prosecution paperwork.
