The Mansfield Booster Club hosted a back-to-school barbecue in the school cafeteria on the first day of classes Sept. 4.

The barbecue is a yearly event to welcome new and returning staff, students, families and friends to the start of the school year.

This year’s event kicked off with grilled hot dogs and hamburgers prepared by school district secretary Jan Durand and booster club president Lisa Hall. Superintendent Mike Messenger helped with serving.

Mason Jaeger joined the Mansfield faculty this year, teaching third and fourth grades.

“I’m excited to start the new year in Mansfield. I’m looking forward to it,” Jaeger said. “I love everything about the school, the staff, the students and the Mansfield community. Everyone is so welcoming.”

The booster club provides important support for academic and extracurricular activities, and for all the young people in Mansfield. Club funding also helps with classroom equipment, the annual science camp, and helps provide books for the classrooms and school library.

“We also help with sports uniforms, field trips, scholarships, and music and playground equipment,” Hall said.

Math teacher and graduation specialist Ric Bayless said, “I always love the first day of school because I get to see all the new kids and greet returning students. It’s a fresh start to a brand new year… and I love teaching math.”

“The back-to-school barbecue is a great way to start off the new school year. We are looking forward to a great 2018-2019 school year,” Messenger said.

The booster club encourages new members to join “so we can continue to provide support for our school, the students and our community,” Hall said.

It meets the third Tuesday of the month in the Mansfield School Library.
