Waterville Town Council members, at their regular meeting Nov. 19, selected?the winners of the annual budget cover contest.

The council had a tough job choosing?the first and second place winners from among 34 Waterville School second-graders who submitted artwork.

According to Clerk/Treasurer Marsha Petersen, this year’s contest had the?most entries that?it’s ever had since?the contest?first started.

First place winner was Seth Suppes, who drew a picture of the American flag. His?artwork will appear on the 2019 town budget cover.

When asked what made him think of drawing the American flag, he said that ?the flag is an important thing about America.? He is proud to be an American and he wanted to show his pride in the drawing of the flag.

Second place winner was Gracie Whitehall, who drew a picture of the Douglas County Courthouse. Her?drawing will appear on the budget?divider.

Whitehall explained that the reason she drew the courthouse was because her grandmother, Paulette Whitehall, used to work there and she remembers going to visit her there before the family moved to Waterville two years ago. She?added that she loves the building and it is one of the oldest buildings in Waterville.

Both?Suppes and Whitehall were excited about winning and had fun making their drawings. Each winner received a framed certificate with their artwork on them.
