Pictorial Past | Self-service cannery in East Wenatchee

Mrs. Neil Gellatly of Wenatchee hauls a pulley-load of freshly canned fruit out of the cooling vat at the self-service cannery on Rock Island Road in East Wenatchee during the fall of 1960. She canned over 300 quarts of fruit that season. Many local women preferred going to the cannery to eliminate the muss in their own kitchens. The steaming and lidding process also insured safe keeping and a more uniform product. (Provided photo/Wenatchee World archives)
