Shockers lose to Brewster

Waterville/Mansfield hosted the league-leading Brewster Bears at the Shocker Dome on Jan. 8.

There was no girls junior varsity game.

The Shocker varsity girls have only lost two games in CW2B league play and they were both against the Bears. In the first meeting between the two teams, the Bears won by 16 points. In Tuesdays night?s game, the Bears won by just 3 points, 48-45. The Shockers had led the first three quarters but in the fourth quarter the?they only made 5 points while the Bears had 16 points.

The Shockers improved on their long shots by making eight 3-point shots. As for free throws, the?girls made only three free throws out of?10 attempts.

Statistics for?girls?were Elizabeth Katovich, 12 points; Ella Osborne, 12 points; Sarah Mullen, 10 points; Mckenna Gurnard, 5 points; Codee Reid, 4 points; and Alex Poppie, 2 points.

The junior varsity boys lost to the talented Bears team that has only lost one?CW2B league game. This was also the second time the Bears and Shockers?met this season. Brewster came out on top, 76-12.

The Shocker varsity boys also lost to the Bears, 72-24.?Brewster led the Shockers, 18-5, in the first quarter, with Waterville/Mansfield leading the scoring, 11-10, in the second quarter. The Bears?pulled away in scoring for the third and fourth quarters, 26 and 18 to Waterville/Mansfield’s 6 and 2.

Scoring statistics for both the boys junior varsity and varsity games were not available.

Brewster and Oroville remain in the lead in conference play with only one loss.?Waterville/Mansfield is in last place.

The Shockers played Liberty Bell on Jan. 11 and Soap Lake on Jan. 12. Details of those games will be in next week’s Empire Press.
