The Waterville/Mansfield Shocker boys basketball team has received the Sportsmanship Award from the Chelan County Officials Association.

“The boys team demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship and class throughout the year,” the association said in announcing the award.

The Chelan County Officials Association covers the schools in Chelan and Douglas counties.

“This is a great award to receive for the entire boys basketball program as it does reflect how both the junior varsity and varsity teams conduct their play on the court,” said head coach Heath Jordan.

Shockers varsity boys team members are Jaylen Hope, Travis Prey, Anthony Ochoa, Kyler Borden, Angel Lucero and Thomas Moser, seniors; Payton Mulanax, Mauricio Negrete, Tristen Marden and Kayden Browning, juniors; and Kody Angus and Evan Simmons, sophomores. Assistant coaches are Derek Browning and Josh Barnes.

Shocker athletes were also acknowledged with all-league team honors in Central Washington 2B.

In girls basketball, sophomore Elizabeth Katovich was named to the first team; freshman Ella Osborne, second team; and junior Sarah Mullen, honorable mention. These awards were voted on by the opposing teams’ coaches from the nine schools in their conference.

For the boys, senior Angel Lucero received honorable mention.

These awards represent the respect from other coaches of each player’s abilities.
