Waterville track runs toward season opener

The Shocker track teams are ready for the upcoming season under the direction of head coach Justin Grillo and assistant Kris Daratha. They competed in their first meet, the multi-team Ephrata Ice Breaker, March 17. The future looks good for Waterville with state champions on both the girl's and boy's teams returning. There are also, especially for the girls, some younger athletes with bright promise.

A Waterville sprinter, a Mansfield jumper and a Waterville distance runner won three events each to lead the accomplishments at the fifth and sixth 1B District track meet May 23 at Toppenish High School.

Shocker track heats up

As the warmer weather comes, the Shocker tracksters are jumping farther and running faster. They traveled to Bridgeport May 6 and made the trek to Winthrop for the May 9 Liberty Bell Invitational. They did well at both meets with some notable victories over potential rivals for ribbons at the state track meet. There were 12 teams at Bridgeport and nine at Liberty Bell, with a selection of 1A, 2B and 1B entries.
